Divisional Commander of Police for Techiman, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Twumasi Ankrah has urged the media to ensure a balanced reportage before, during and after the November polls.

He said the crucial nature of the election requires media reports that are factual, accurate, balance and devoid of favoritism.

According to him, the days of media houses misinforming the public leading to pockets of violence in the country has to end.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting with the media held in Techiman, DCOP Ankrah said the police service expects the media to be professional and stick to the ethics of their profession in their programs.

“The catchwords here is responsible journalism,” he said arguing the media has to censor callers who phone in on their programs to use abusive languages.

He also used the opportunity to highlight the role the media plays in terms of disseminating the right information in the country adding they need to desist from inciting violence with their reports.

He disclosed the willingness of the region’s election task force to partner with media houses in the country to ensure that the right information is communicated to Ghanaians.

Present at the forum were the district commander of police for Techiman, DSP Mahmoud Abbas Yussif, Chairman of the municipal peace council, Reverend Prince O. Assaku, representatives of the district fire service, red cross society, and the Municipal head of the Electoral Commission (EC), Wahid Sidique.
