The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has raised concern about the possibility of political violence ahead of the November general elections.
He says the country risk being plunged into chaos if the media do not control the political temperature.
He made the comment when a team from JOY and Luv FM paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace, Wednesday.
The team is in the Ashanti Region as part of JOY FM’s election road show series called the Ballot Box.
The Super Morning Show and the JOY BALLOT BOX programme will be broadcast live from Kumasi over the next two days.
The Asantehene was worried that the media aided by desperate politicians are inflaming passions ahead of the polls.
He told the head of JOYNEWS political desk and host of the JOY BALLOT BOX, Evans Mensah whatever happens this year will largely depend on what the media allow on its platforms.
He said the media control the temperature of the country and asked journalists to exercise a high sense of professionalism.
He also criticized the phenomenon of political tagging.
The Asantehene has been a victim of political tagging in the past, having been linked with the erstwhile Kufuor government and now the incumbent president, John Mahama.
He reiterated his political neutrality, saying he will work in partnership with whichever party is in government.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II took a swipe at some parliamentary aspirants who make unrealistic promises to the prospective voters.
He wondered where they will be getting the money from to undertake those projects.
Evans Mensah promised an exciting Ballot Box programme on Friday. There will ballot boxes placed at vantage points in Kumasi where residents will be asked to vote on the salient issues on which to vote on in the November elections.
