Hundreds of personnel from corporate establishments in Kumasi turned up to partake in the second edition of the ‘Fitness Challenge’ organized by Luv FM.
The health walk is part of the Station’s health package to support the physical and mental well-being of staff from participating institutions.
Gym instructors had gone on-air to give tips for a healthy lifestyle, prior to the event. The intent, according to the organizers, is to offer a platform for workers to exercise, socialize and network for enhanced business productivity.
Kumasi Mayor, Samuel Sarpong joined staff of institutions and other individuals to walk from the Tech Junction to Denyame, under a competitive environment.
Luv FM’s Kofi Adu Domfeh reports that some people joined the walk along the way, whilst others fell out on the way. But most people eventually made it to the Miklin Hotel to join in the aerobics.
The City Mayor emphasized the need for corporate Kumasi to care a great deal about the health of its workforce. Mr. Sarpong said “it is very important because when you work, the possibility of being stressed is there. And when you exercise, it saves you from all these and for that matter all corporate bodies and workers should take interest in undertakings such exercises”.
SIC Insurance Company recorded the highest turnout and Kumasi Area Manager, Larry Babawa was elated at the opportunity to stay fit as well as meet social and business partners.
Side attractions included demonstrations by a Tae Kwan Do group and free medical screening.
Citilink Air Transport won the ultimate prize of Five thousand Ghana Cedis worth of airtime from Luv FM. SIC came second whilst UniBank was third.
The Fitness Challenge was sponsored by ADB Scientific Products, Latex Foam, Sammado Multi-Business and MDS-Lancet Laboratories Ghana.
