The Greater Accra Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party says the resignation of some Polling Station Executives in the Ablekuma West Constituency will not have any negative impact on the fortunes of the party in the upcoming November polls.
More than 10 executives resigned ahead of a Parliamentary Primaries held in the constituency Saturday over allegations the incumbent MP, Ursula Owusu Ekuful who eventually won, was behind a reportedly bloated register.
But speaking with JOY NEWS, Regional Communications Director, Alhaji Yusif Fofana said the Executives were not even validly elected.
He said there is evidence which shows that the executives were handpicked and that “no elections took place on the day of the of constituency elections, they were not voted for.
“Ursula did not generate any album at all. The executives who have opted out are beneficiaries of the two albums that were used in 2010. Ablekuma West is our strong hold and we are going to retain the seat, our people are ready,” he said.
Incumbent Ursula Owusu-Ekuful won the election by polling 554 votes, while her main contender Roni Nicole polled 317 out of the valid votes cast.
In an interview with JOY NEWS after her feat, Madam Owusu-Ekuful called for support to enable her retain the seat.
Meanwhile, the NPP Parliamentary Aspirant who pulled out just before the primaries, Theophilus Tetteh says he is seriously considering the option of running as an Independent Candidate in the November polls.
Mr Tetteh withdrew from the Ablekuma West Primaries accusing the incumbent MP of manipulating the process.
He told JOY NEWS he has already received many calls urging him to go independent.
“It is part of the suggestions that have come to me. I have never ruled any of them out, it is a possibility and that is one of the decisions that has resonated in all the decisions that are coming,” he told Afreh Kwakye Nuamah.
