Over fifty members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) have threatened to bring activities of the Assembly to a close next week if the Coordinating Director fails to summon the general assembly to elect a presiding member.

Three elections have failed to choose between Nana Kofi Senyah and Adumhene Nana Barfour Agyei Kesse. They members feel there is feet dragging in setting another date for the election of a presiding member.

The members accuse management of KMA of failing to arrange another election after close to four months since the last meeting.

Nana Prempeh, Assembly member for the Fankyinbra electoral area who spoke for the group said in Adansi South, they voted 27 times before getting a presiding member within two to three months.

"We are the board directors of Kumasi so if we are not working how much more the managers? If by next week they don't get us a date we are going to close the whole KMA,"

The deadlock in electing a presiding member has handicapped the formation of committees and running the developmental agenda of the city.

A pilot project of the city to distribute waste bins to residents has been put on hold after members raised concerns it has to go through the general assembly.

The KMA says they are aware of the deadline but the resolution will have to go through a consideration process.

Public Relations Officer for the KMA, Godwin Okumah Nyame, told Luv News' Erastus Asare Donkor, the Coordinating Director alone cannot summon a meeting so the Assembly is having some sort of consultation before they come out with a decision on their next line of action.
