Over 350 golfers are expected to converge at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi this weekend to participate in the annual MTN Asantehene Otumfuo Gold Cup tournament.
This year’s competition coincides with the 17th anniversary of the enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second Asantehene.
The tournament is expected to attract both professional and amateur golfers from Kumasi, Achimota, Tema Country Club, Bogoso and Obuasi, among others.
The four-day competition, the most prestigious on the golfing calendar, tees off on Thursday.
Captain of the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi, Donkoh Baa has been explaining the significance of the competition.
“The Asantehene Golf tournament is the most prestigious tournament on the golfing calendar in Ghana”.
He envisages an increase in the number of participants in this year’s competition from 250 that took part in last year’s event.
“We expect golfers from all over the country with participation increasing from the 250 recorded last year. The professionals will play over four days while the amateurs will compete over two days”.
The event will be climaxed with a presentation ceremony on Sunday to winners by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
