Three persons sustained serious injuries when an articulated truck and a taxi collided at Winkogo Junction in the Upper East Region yesterday, Thursday May 31, 2007.
The victims said to be in critical condition at the Bolgatanga Central Hospital were on board the taxi cab travelling from Bolga to Tongo in the Talensi/Nabdam district.
Eye witnesses said that it took volunteers about 45 minutes to rescue the victims who were trapped in the taxi.
The assemblyman for the electoral area, Edward Adoko expressed concern about speeding by drivers especially, when approaching major towns. "Looking at the accident statistics, in the area, it appears that they are always caused by overspeeding," he said.
Mr Adoko said since December last year, five accidents have occurred in that same area resulting in the loss of four lives.
He therefore cautioned drivers to observe road regulations and also appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority to construct ramps on the road to control speeding and minimise accidents.
