Junior nurses and midwives say they will embark on a nationwide demonstration on the 4th of October if their salary arrears are not paid before then. The health workers claim they have been working for the past 17 months without pay. They also claim several petitions to the Health Ministry have not been responded to.The health workers have therefore threatened to go on a nationwide strike to press home their demands.Spokesperson for the nurses, Enoch Agyepong said, “We will not go to work because the Ministry of Health is taking us for granted. We invited them through the National Media Commission and [for close to] two months now, they have failed to respond.”The ministry did not even respond to an ultimatum issued by the nurses, he noted.Source: Joy News/Ghana
