A Sunyani-based policeman died on the spot when a taxi cab on which he was traveling from Sunyani to Accra was crushed by an articulated truck at the outskirts of Kubease near Ejisu in the Ejisu-Juabeng District of the Ashanti Region on Friday.
The policeman, who was identified only as Constable Marfo died on the spot when the articulated truck which was travelling from Burkina Faso to Accra ran over his vehicle which had been parked on the pavement.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Isaac Owusu Dompreh of the Konongo Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) said the deceased was traveling with an unidentified lady and one Sergeant Asare also of the Sunyani police when the incident occurred at about 1500 hours.
He said Sergeant Asare who was attending to nature’s call escaped death by inches when the incident occurred, however, the deceased and the lady were unlucky as they were crushed into another parked articulated truck, killing the constable in the process whilst the
lady sustained severe injuries.
ASP Dompreh said some witnesses rushed to the scene and sent the two to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where the deceased was deposited at the morgue whilst the lady was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
He said, the police have mounted a manhunt for the Burkinabe driver who absconded after the accident.
