The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Health Services Workers Union has been arrested for allegedly embezzling Union dues.
Ernest Badu-Boateng was arrested on Tuesday, May 17 by Police at Sofoline in Kumasi after a formal complaint was filed by the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) branch executives of the Union.
The misappropriation of funds was discovered by the National Executive Committee of the Union.
A total of ¢92,352.67 which has allegedly embezzled were welfare and development funds, according to the Committee report intercepted by Joy News' Erastus Asare Donkor.
The Committee also cited the Volta Regional Industrial Relations officer, Samuel Mensah and other former executives of the Union in the misappropriation of funds.
Samuel Mensah was found to have embezzled a total of ¢55,012 from KATH staff paid from Internally Generated Funds from September 2011 to May 2012.
The investigation reveals Ernest Badu-Boateng with the help of Samuel Mensah and Nti Ofori Atta of Tafo Government Hospital opened a secret account with Unibank for the transfer of the funds.
