The Fair Wages Commission is pleading with polytechnic teachers to rescind their decision to embark on a strike. The teachers have hinted they may abandon the classroom to press home demands for better conditions of service.Their intended action comes at a time when government is struggling to get university teachers to return to the lecture halls. The polytechnic teachers accuse the Labour and Fair Wages Commissions of being dishonest because they failed to honor promises to address their grievances. The teachers called off a strike they started last month after assurances by the two bodies.President of the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana, Godfred Abledu told Joy News Thursday they have lost confidence in the Labor Commission. But the Chief Executive of the Fair Wages Commission, George Smith Graham wants the teachers to exercise patience while efforts are being made to address their concerns. In a related development, the Fair Wages Commission is scheduled to meet leaders of striking university teachers later this morning.Source: Joy News/Ghana
