The Eastern Regional Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr Ransford Owusu-Boakye, on Wednesday called for the inclusion of fruit trees in all tree planting exercises to serve both ecological purpose and also provide food for the people.
He was speaking at the observation of World Disaster Reduction Day at the Oyoko Methodist Senior High School on Wednesday which was organized under the theme “Making cities resilient; my city is getting ready”.
As part of the day, the staff of NADMO in the region, teachers and students of the school planted some trees in the school while NADMO donated 1,000 seedlings to the school for planting on the school compound.
Mr. Owusu-Boakye called on the youth to join in the campaign on tree planting and public education to help reduce man-made and environmental disasters in the home and the communities.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Frank Eshun, said the tree planting exercise would be of much benefit to the school.
He said recently part of the assembly hall of the school was ripped off during rainstorm and had to be re-roofed.
Mr. Eshun thanked NADMO for the donation of the seedlings.
