The Head of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation at the Presidency is advocating the taxing of allowances for university teachers. As the strike of the teachers enters its third week, Dr. Tony Aidoo has issues with their demands for salary reviews and payment of arrears. A former lecturer himself, Dr. Tony Aidoo described the strike as illegal and said the allowances they are demanding must be taxed. His suggestions come days after the composition of committee by the President to look into the demands of the lecturers. He claimed university were enjoying about 16 different categories of allowances which were all non-taxable and questioned the rationale for that situation. Source: Joy News/Ghana
