The Asante Presbytery, of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has inducted the Reverend Benson Osafo Kantankah, as its new Clerk, with a call on the leadership to work hard in deepening the spiritual renewal programmes of the church. The Reverend Kwabenna Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Presbytery, said by so doing, the members would be strengthened in their Christian faith, to enable them to overcome spiritual and physical challenges that could draw their Christian lives backwards. The new Clerk replaces Reverend Ernest Odame Asare, whose four year tenure of office ended recently.Until his induction, Reverend Kantankah was the Director of the Department of Church Life and Nurture. The Chairperson said the Presbyterian Church was established on the principles of discipline, adding that, it was therefore expected of members to endeavour to uphold the church's tenets and doctrines.Reverend Opuni-Frimpong indicated that, in the wake of the ascendancy in crime among the youth, the church as agents of change, should mobilize resources to embark on programmes aimed at sensitizing them to embrace the gospel for their own good.He decried the politicization of national issues, especially, policies and programmes meant to uplift the living conditions of the people, saying the politicization of educational, health and employment issues was not in the best interest of the nation. The Chairperson tasked the new Clerk to be committed to duty, for the growth of Presbyterianism.Reverend Kantankah thanked the Presbytery for the confidence reposed in him and called for support in realizing his objectives.Source: GNA
