Zoomlion subsidiary, Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP), will be supporting students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to improve their practical knowledge and skills.
The waste recycling company signed a memorandum of understanding with the University to that effect last Friday June 10, 2016 at Adjen Kotoku, in the Ga West district of the Greater Accra Region.
Under the agreement, students from the Kumasi-based University will collaborate with ACARP Engineers in three areas:
- Research Project/Joint supervision of post graduate work,
- Internship
- Demonstration farms
Managing Director of ACARP, Richard Amponsah, said the agreement with KNUST is part of the his company’s strategic plan.
“ACARP as a material recovery facility recognizes the need to have students prepared for the world of work,” said Mr Amponsah.
He said ACARP hopes to end continuous complains by industry heads that students do not get the practical skills after their first degree.
He notes that the students are not the problem but the curriculum with which they are taught.
ACARP is an integrated waste processing and recycling company established to receive, sort, process and recycle solid and liquid waste and produce organic manure for agronomic purposes in Ghana and West Africa.
The Plant also addresses the problem of plastic waste through sorting, collection, processing and recycling.
The company also produces high quality pelletized plastics as raw materials to our local industries for further production into various plastic items. Other recovered materials such as textiles, packaging materials and other highly combustible materials are also used for the manufacture of high calorific burning materials for specific industries.
