The absence of religious leaders became a subject of serious discussion at the celebration of this year’s Family Planning Day in Hohoe, under the theme; ‘Practice Family Planning now for a Better Life.’ Stakeholders comprising traditional rulers, assembly members, health service providers and the media expressed disgust about the fact that no religious leader was present in the deliberation of reproductive health issues and the various methods used in family planning. Health officials say the current patronage of family planning in the Hohoe municipality stands at 25 percent, a situation they describe as alarming. The Health Directorate, therefore, brought together these stakeholders to become advocates of family planning methods and entreat couples to plan their families, but assembly members and traditional rulers in particular did not take it kindly when religious leaders they say play an integral role in moulding society were not present.
