uniBank Ghana Limited will be commemorating its 10th anniversary next year with the opening of seven additional branch networks across the country.
The strategy, according to bank officials, is to show a visible presence in the northern sector of the country, focusing on the farming, mining and oil sectors of the economy.
The wholly-owned Ghanaian company currently operates 13 networks. The additional branches will be in Tamale, Techiman, Sunyani, Kumasi (2), Tarkwa and Axim.
Chief Executive Officer, Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah observed that in spite of the increased competition in banking sector and high appetite for credit, Ghana is still one of the least banked countries, compared to countries like South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda.
He noted that uniBank has over the years developed its competencies and skills to partner small and medium enterprises for growth, adding that the bank’s capital injection will ensure its spread to strategic locations with unique banking solutions.
“The news that oil and gas production would commerce soon in the country poses a lot more challenges to us as a bank. uniBank has appropriately geared itself up for all these challenges,” Mr. Owusu-Amoah told Luv FM at a customer appreciation event in Kumasi.
uniBank started operations in 2001 and has within the period won prestigious awards from Corporate Initiatives Ghana.
The CEO said the company’s position as the second fastest growing company in Ghana for 2009 will only be complete if the businesses of customers grow alongside. “We want to see Ghanaians grow their business and we will continue to commit ourselves and have absolute commitment to ensure further growth of uniBank as well as of small and medium scale enterprises in Ghana,” said Mr. Owusu-Amoah.
