Angry workers of the Atlantic Port Services, a stevedore company in Tema severely assaulted the Managing Director of the company at the Labour Commission, Wednesday.
Geoffery Biney had his attire completely reduced to tatters after he allegedly received bouts of heavy punches from the workers.
The Chairman of the Labour Commission Joseph Aryitey confirmed the incident in a short briefing to police personnel who had been called in to maintain law and order.
The workers allegedly laid ambush at the premises of the Labour Commission where union leaders of the Maritime and Dock Workers Association together with management of the Atlantic Ports Services had gone for arbitration.
The workers are accusing management of non-payment of salary arrears for over seven months and were seeking justice from the commission.
Apparently dissatisfied with the adjournment of the case for the next five days, the workers decided to settle it their own way.
They attacked Mr. Biney and his sister Patricia Biney who was taking photographs of the confrontation.
The workers escaped before personnel of the Adabraka police station arrived at the Commission.
Police have begun investigations into the matter and have issued medical forms to Mr Biney and his sister for examination.
