The Volta Regional Police Commander is advocating for a freeze in the defence of armed robbers at the law courts.
DCOP Ampah Bennin believes such a move will mitigate the growing cases of armed robbery in the country.
According to him, the activities of lawyers at the courts frustrate the hard work of the police in fighting this armed robbery canker.
He explained the lawyer’s reputation is bolstered only by the number of cases they win in court adding, they (lawyers) deliberately raise technicalities and doubts in the minds of judges only to have real cases of armed robbery thrown out in the court of law.
In an interview with Joy News' Elvis Adjetey the Police Commander pleaded with judges and magistrates to concentrate on the substance of armed robbery cases than on technicalities.
"The law profession is good; no lawyer will like to lose a case because the more you lose your case the more you lose your credibility.
“If you are handling cases involving armed robbery certainly you want to win to set the armed robbers free. This is where my fear is,” he said.
