Some fishermen are calling for a renaming of the National Farmers’ Day to a Farmers and Fishermen Day. According to them the day recognizes both farmers and fishermen and not only farmers, hence the call for a name change. The fishermen are also asking for equity in the awards at the annual celebration. Kow Kotu and Kwabena Donkor who are both national best fisherman recipients told Joy News the awards given to the best fisherman is nothing compared to that given to the best farmer. They pray their suggestion will be taken into consideration for the next national awards. The 2010 National Farmers Day will be held at Somanya in the Eastern Region on Friday.
