Sixteen persons believed to be thieves terrorizing travellers at the Kaneshie Market area have been nabbed by the Kaneshie District Police Command.The suspected thieves, who are between the ages of 17 and 42 years, were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday morning around 5am, after the police conducted a swoop to clear the area.The arrested persons include Charles Mensah, Benjamin Okine, Emmanuel Mensah, Samuel Arhin, Ebenezer Kwala, Nii Ayitey, Mahama Alhassan, Kofi Yeboah, Mohammed Barichie, Jone Anaman, Francis Ocran, Samuel Adjei, Theophilus Asomani, Nana Yaw and Musa Bawa.Briefing Dilly Guide, the Kaneshie District Police Commander, Superintendent Fleance Adika and his Crime Officer, ASP Samuel Naa Musah, indicated that the suspects acted as head potters who wanted to carry load for travellers for a fee but they ended up robbing passengers.He noted that the activities of the suspects had caused panic among many travellers who used the foot-bridge after 7pm."More often, we receive reports daily from travellers whose bags, mobile, laptops and other important baggage have been snatched by these boys at Kaneshie and this problem is becoming a worry to the district."He noted that investigations proved that the suspects arrested were networked and after snatching the items immediately, they passed them on to their counterparts who then escaped with the booty.He said information gathered also indicated that some or the suspects travelled from Accra CMB and Agbogbloshie to help their counterparts to cmmit the crime.He noted that the arrested persons would be screened, after which the they would be prosecuted.Source: Daily Guide
