Sixty year-old Benjamin Adjetey Adjei has been adjudged the 2010 National Best Farmer after a colourful celebration held in Somanya on Friday.
The award winner hails from Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region and takes home a fully furnished 3 bedroom house with an accident cover of GH¢5000.
He is also expected to embark on a pleasure trip to the UK as part of the reward package.
Adjetey Adjei is engaged in crop farming, owns a cattle ranche, as well as poultry farms.
The second national best farmer is Maxwell Awudu Karim from the Upper East Region. He took home a tractor with implements and insurance cover worth 2500, for a year.
Eric Midorgsey from the Afram plains came third and was rewarded with a double cabin pick-up with a 1500 insurance cover.
Moses Tetteh was also adjudged the National Best Fisherman and received a double cabin pickup car and farm equipments.
President Mills in his speech pledged his government’s unflinching support for the farmers, saying, they like the Black Stars, are being celebrated for their diligence.
In spite of the oil discovery, the President said agriculture will still play a pivotal role in the country’s development.
The ceremony was attended by government delegation including, Agric Minister Kwesi Awhoi, Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Employment Minister, ET Mensah.
