The 2016 Olympics will be held in four venues in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Deodoro, Barra, Copacabana and Maracana - the site of the Olympic Stadium.
The Maracana complex includes the famous football stadium - which will host the opening and closing ceremonies - and the smaller Maracanazinho, which is the venue for the volleyball.

The Olympic Stadium (Engenhao) will also play host to football as well as athletic events.

The Sambodromo, home of the famous Rio de Janeiro Carnival, is the location for archery and the marathon.

Gymnastic events will take place in the Rio Olympic Arena.

This is a view of the Pontal area, the location for the start and finish of the cycling time trial and race walk.

Badminton, boxing, table tennis and weightlifting will all take place at the Riocentro Complex.

The Carioca Arena Complex, in the Barra da Tijuca district, is the venue for basketball, fencing, judo, taekwondo and wrestling.

The Olympic Hockey Centre and the Youth Arena will host the modern pentathlon fencing matches as well as the group stage of the women's basketball tournament, and the Deodoro Aquatics Centre will be for the swimming section of the modern pentathlon.

The Olympic BMX Centre can be seen at the top left, and the Whitewater Stadium for the canoe slalom.

The mountain bike events will take place at Deodoro.

The Equestrian Centre is also located at the Deodoro venue.

Fort Copacabana is the site of the marathon swimming events, triathlon and cycling road races.

Athletes carry a scull during training at the Lagoa Stadium, venue for the canoe sprint and rowing events.

Track cycling will take place at the new Velodrome located in the Olympic Park.

Diving, synchronized swimming and water polo events will be held at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre, also located in the Olympic Park.

There will be handball taking place every dayduring the Olympics. Games at the Future Arena start on Saturday, 6 August, with teams competing for medals on the final weekend.

The Reserva de Marapendi, was designed by American Gil Hanse. Construction of the coastal golf course in Barra - three miles from the athletes' village - began in March 2013.

The Marina da Gloria, at Guanabara Bay, will play host to the sailing events.

There are 32 events in the pool at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, with heats, semi-finals and a final for any race up to and including 200m and just heats and a final for everything else.

Tennis was reintroduced at the 1988 Seoul Games. There are five gold medals up for grabs at the Olympic Tennis Centre - men's and women's singles and doubles, and mixed doubles.
