Telecom giant, Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Tigo has defied the AMA’s order of keeping their offices locked until they settle debts owed to the Assembly.The offices were closed with padlocks by the AMA but the company broke the locks on Wednesday.AMA officials thus visited the company again to lock up their offices but this was greeted with some resistance from company officials.The AMA in recent weeks have been embarking on a door-to-door campaign of business entities in the capital, locking up offices of those who have defaulted in payments due it.Speaking to Joy News, the public relations officer of the AMA, NUMO Blafo III said Millicom owed the AMA over GHC 200,000 and it was as a result of this that they took that action.He said Millicom however resisted attempts to re-lock the place by calling for a reinforcement of private security personnel who prevented the AMA task force from carrying out their duty.According to him, it took the timely intervention of the police to allow the AMA to lock up the building but apparently, the company has broken the chains again.“We’ve got the news that they’ve broken the locks again...management will decide on the next line of action, but their board chairman was here to discuss with the mayor when we got the information that they’ve broken the locks,” he said.For now Tigo has declined comment on the rumpus.Source: Joy News/ Ghana
