The Takoradi Polytechnic Council will meet on Tuesday in a renewed attempt to resolve the impasse that led to the closure of the school some three weeks ago. The polytechnic was closed down after students clashed with police who had gone there to keep order. The students were protesting the continuous stay in office of their Principal, Dr. Samuel Obeng Apori who they said had brought the Polytechnic's name into disrepute. The students also boycotted their end of semester examinations in their attempt to get the Principal out. It will be the second meeting in less than a week. The last meeting failed to yield any positive results, as the students represented by the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students demanded the resignation of the Principal of the school before any compromises could be made. Meanwhile, some 64 students of the Polytechnic who were arrested in connection with the clashes are expected back in court on Monday, June 25. The Polytechnic authorities have declined comment on the status of the Polytechnic and its Principal.
