Cocoa, coffee and shea nut farmers have given plaudit to government for what they claim to be an impressive performance in the agricultural sector. The farmers graded the President excellently saying there is no letter good enough to exemplify the performance of government. The NPP had only yesterday ridiculed government’s economic performance with an F, saying President Mills has missed most of his economic targets and plunged the country into needless debt. But the party's assessment is sharply in contrast with that of the farmers who showered the president with praises when they paid a ‘thank you’ visit to him at the Castle on Thursday. The group comprises the ten regional executives of the association of cocoa, coffee and shea nut farmers.Spokesperson for the association Alhaji Imoro Issifu Alhassan said the president’s support for the sector has been unprecedented. The purpose of our meeting today is to share with you our joy at what you and your government have been doing for the cocoa, coffee and shea nuts farmers of Ghana.“The latest producer price increase by your government from 2400 per tone to 3200 per tone from the 2010-2011 cocoa season is an act which we deem unprecedented."Mr. Imoro also cited the provision of solar lights and torch lights to farmers in rural communities which he said has impacted positively on the performance of farmers.Alhaji Issifu Alhassan asked the President to do more to check fuel smuggling which he says is on the rise.Chief of Staff John Henry Martey Newman assured the farmers that government will provide them all the assistance they need.
