The Volta Region House of Chiefs has congratulated Mrs Justice Georgina Wood on her appointment as the first woman Chief Justice of Ghana.
A statement signed by Togbega Gabusu VI, President of the House, said by her appointment "Ghanaian women have come very far in achieving what their male counterparts have been able to do".
The statement said the House is of the strong belief that her appointment would serve as a good avenue for other potential Ghanaian women to aspire to similar high profile positions in the country.
The House urged the new Chief justice to maintain her judicious wisdom, tact and benign firmness while making attempts to tackle the diverse judicial problems in the country assuring her of its prayers for God's guidance as she faced the challenges of her new office.
The House also thanked President John Agyekum Kufuor for his decision to appoint the first female Justice for the country.
The House similarly congratulated Togbe Afede XIV, for his efforts in facilitating the presence in the country of the Shenzhen Energy Group Company Limited of China to help solve the country's energy shortfall with a 560-megawatt plant.
Togbega Gabusu said Togbe Afede's initiative was ample evidence of the invaluable contributions chiefs were capable of making to the country's development when supported.
