MTN, the leading telecommunications provider in Ghana has established an ultra modern Switch and Data Center in Ghana to boost the quality of voice and data services it is proving to its subscribers in the country. The world class facility will also support the rollout of innovative value added services.The facility, estimated at USD 250 million, is the first of its kind in Ghana’s telecommunications industry and the third in MTN Group after South Africa and Iran. It is expected to provide the latest and most advanced technology needed to drive MTN’s operations in Ghana.The switch and Data center is located at Sakaman, a suburb of Accra. Since its establishment, the facility has attracted the attention of a cross-section of the Ghanaian community including Mr. Paarock Van Percy, the Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA).During the last Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) conference in Accra, Dr. Hamadoun Toure, the Secretary General of International Telecommunications Union (ITU), took an opportunity to visit the facility. He was impressed by MTN’s commitment to setting the pace for technological advancement in Africa. “I am pleasantly surprised by the huge investments made by the company”, he said.In addition, a section of management and employees of MTN recently undertook a tour of the center to acquaint themselves with the operations of the state of the art Infrastructure that is delivering world class services to customers of MTN.Mr. Mazen Mroue, the Chief Information Officer of MTN said, “as an organization, it is important that our employees get to understand the progress we are making in building excellent infrastructure providing the capacity to offer best services to our customers”. “In order to maintain our leadership position in the country’s telecommunications sector, we have to design winning initiatives and strategies to stay ahead of competition”, he added. Mr. Mroue re-affirmed MTN’s commitment to continue to make the needed investments to ensure that customers continue to enjoy world class telecommunications services.Since its entry into the country, MTN has enjoyed great patronage from mobile phone subscribers across the country with its subscriber base growing from about 5 million in August 2008 to the current level of almost 9 million subscribers.
