Chief Executive Officer of rLG Communication, Roland Agambire says the company would be flooding the local market with its locally assembled laptop computers by March this year.The Ghanaian ICT firm is the first to assemble mobile phones in the country and presently sells its brand of products in other West African countries.The company is now expanding its assembling plant to assemble Plasma TVs, laptops and internet modems.In an interview with Luv Fm, Mr. Agambire stated that the company would be bringing its experience in mobile phone assembling to bear on the computer section of the business.“Before rLG will put itself into anything, we would have studied the market; we do our research before we launch ourselves. That is what happened in the mobile phone business… we do not jump into anything without going through a process and for us entering into the market, especially with LCDs and Laptops is more exciting than just doing only mobile phones. It is more complex to assembly a mobile phone than to assemble a PC or a laptop. So for us it’s going to be one of the easiest things that we can really do”, said Mr. Agambire.rLG is already partnering the government to distribute special brands of the product, named ‘MGS1 Laptop’ to public schools. The aim is to increase knowledge and application of information communication technology (ICT) in the educational curricula.Mr. Agambire emphasized quality and affordability of laptops for the average Ghanaian to be ICT complaint.“Especially what we are doing now for the school children, it has to be very robust and must be user friendly… now the price that is being placed is quite unbelievable. I’ve always said that these things should not be that expensive for us but it’s because of lack of knowledge and the fact that we don’t know the sources of some of the components, it has hidden our ability to challenge some of the producers and the people selling these things on the market”, he observed.Meanwhile, the company’s ‘MLS Plasma TVs’ are expected to be available on the market in June 2011.Story by Kofi Adu Domfeh/Luv Fm/Ghana
