A Solar Energy System Designer in Kumasi, Mr Martin Maison, has said that the best option to solving the energy crisis of the country is the adoption of solar energy system. He has therefore appealed to the government to adopt the system as a national policy to solve the energy crisis.Speaking to the GNA, Mr Maison said the energy crisis was causing serious problems and that it was time effective measures were put in place to find a lasting solution to the problems. He stressed the need for the people to disabuse their minds about solar energy that it was expensive and that it could not be adopted in the country. The Solar Energy Designer observed that the minimum household requirement of 1,500 watts could be provided with the use of panels, inverters, batteries and other materials at affordable prices.Mr Maison said it was also time for the country to break the practice of depending too much on hydro for electricity. He mentioned some of the countries, which had successfully adopted the system as Germany, California, China, Burkina Faso, Kenya and Tanzania and asked the government to emulate the example.Mr David Ackah Andoh, an industrialist in Kumasi said the country was blessed with the availability of abundant sunshine and appealed to the government to harness it to assist the developmental needs of the country. He said the effort by the government to import generators to salvage the situation was not a long-term measure to resolve the problem and urged the government to find pragmatic solutions to the problem. The industrialist urged the Electricity Company of Ghana to invest largely in the production of solar energy to sell to consumers to supplement the hydroelectric production of the country.Source: GNA
