The presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the 2008 General Elections, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, believes there is nothing wrong with the decision by President John Evans Atta Mills to hold talks with ex-president John Agyekum Kufuor at the Osu-Castle on Tuesday. Dr. Nduom, who described the meeting as a testament of the country’s growing democracy, however, warned against wasting precious time on radio discussing the relevance or otherwise of the encounter. “This isn’t something we need to discuss for long and make too much noise about, because what had to be done is what is being done,” Dr. Nduom stated. He disclosed that people like him for a long time agitated for ex-president Rawlings and Kufuor to be hosting such meetings when they were in office, and urged the presidency not to invite only ex-presidents, but extend it to leaders of the various political parties as well as religious leaders. “If you watch a country like America, the president always calls on ex-presidents who are alive. Not long ago, president Obama called on both George Bush Senior and George Bush Junior to dine with him at the White House,” he added. Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, Dr. Nduom said such regular meetings could help forestall possible pockets of violence that might crop up in the 2012 elections. Dr. Nduom revealed that a few weeks ago, he was privileged to be part of the Prayer Breakfast of America, and said, “it was a nice experience to write home about”. To him, President Mills has performed “only one miracle out of the many which will help this country”. Source: Peacefmonline.com
