The Minister for Education, Science and Sports, Papa Owusu Ankomah says he has not rescinded his interest in contesting the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer position.
He was reacting to speculations from Sekondi, where he is also the Member of Parliament, that he no longer had interest in the NPP’s presidential race.
Long rumoured to be interested in the post, the Minister confirmed his interest at the party’s delegates’ conference in Koforidua last weekend.
However reports from Sekondi on Thursday indicated that the Minister was no longer interested in contesting the NPP’s presidential race.
Speaking to Joy News, Papa Owusu Ankomah described the reports as untrue and insisted he had not given up his dreams of annexing the presidency.
“I don’t know who is spreading that story. There’s absolutely not an iota of truth in that. I don’t know where the person got that story. It’s not correct. I have not told anyone that I am not interested in pursuing this programme that I have set myself. People should completely discount this story. We’re all testing the waters at this stage”, he said.
Papa Owusu Ankomah said he had a very large portfolio that required his continued attention and he would prefer to concentrate on his job in the meantime but should not be counted out of the race.
