Sulley Muntari is keen to make his stay in the English Premier League permanent, even though he has no idea whether he will still be at Sunderland next season. The Ghanaian midfielder returned to England in the January transfer window, two-and-a-half seasons after leaving Portsmouth. He spent that period under Jose Mourinho winning loads of trophies, but says both him and the Portuguese coach speak endlessly about English football. “We both missed English football so much,” said Muntari. “I do not know who missed it more … let's say equally so much. “Every day we would talk about English football and what was happening in the Premier League, sometimes for a long time. Jose is a great man. I think definitely one day he will come back into the Premier League, he wants it so badly. He never said that directly but he did not have to. It was so obvious. “I missed it so much. I watched it every day, read about it all the time and was telling my friends how much I wanted to return, even when I was winning titles and the Champions League. “It might sound strange because we were winning so many trophies including the Champions League, but whatever happened in Milan, I had to come back to the Premier League.” While Sunderland may not offer the trappings of Milan that Muntari was used to at his previous base, he insist he us falling in love with it on a daily basis and is willing to play his heart out for the club. “Sunderland is quieter and, of course, the weather is different. But I am doing the same job - football - and I really enjoy it here. When I was at Portsmouth, I was living in Poole so I know what it is like to live away from a big busy city. I have no excuses not to do well here because I always wanted to come back and play in England. “I feel welcome here. Everyone has so much passion about football. There is a different passion here. The stadiums are always full and that is what makes the football so great here. “It is something I really love. Of course, there is passion in Italy but it is a different style of football. Here it is so passionate. The Italians are good people too. I am not against Italian football just so much for English football. “I do not know whether I will be here next season. I am on loan but I am just concentrating on the rest of this season. I am not thinking about what will happen at the end of the season. “I just want to do my best, ensuring we play as a team and be able to achieve exactly what we want. We want to try to get in to Europe and that is what I will be doing my best to do.” Source: Kickoff.com
