Sachet water is to sell at 10 pesewas effective tomorrow.
Though the National Association of Sachet Water Producers has been considering the price review for some weeks now, the new price which is double the current price was confirmed over the weekend.
National President, Magnus Nunoo told Joy Business the review has become necessary because of increases in fuel price and other inputs.
He said a bag of sachet water should also sell at not more than one-and-a-half Ghana Cedis.
Mr Nunoo said the increase was entirely justified because “the last time [prices] went up was in 2007, three years down the line, it is only fitting, knowing what inflation figures in this country are to review the prices.”
He however maintained if the one pesewa coin was in use, the price of sachet water would have been eight pesewas and not 10 as is the case.
The announcement of the price increase comes on the back of threats by some local government agencies to clamp down on those who sell the product for more than 5 pesewas.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly last week threatened to arrest producers who insist on the new price.
Spokesperson for the KMA Chief Executive, Clement Kegeri told Luv FM the assembly will not tolerate, what it described as actions that would create lawlessness in the city.
He said there was no justification for the increases and that some people were only seeking to use Kumasi as a base for destabilization.
But Mr. Nunoo says the latest announcement from the national association should clear the air.
