Airfares are expected to go up by at least 25 dollars to accommodate revised taxes announced by Finance Minister Kwabena Duffuor.
The taxes were revised in the 2011 budget. Whilst economy class ticket holders will be paying airport tax of a hundred dollars, business class will pay 150 dollars whilst those in first class will pay 200 dollars.
Those however travelling within the sub region will have to pay 60 dollars, whilst those travelling within the country will pay just 5 Ghana cedis.
Previous reviews have resulted in chaos at the airports as passengers who have already purchased their tickets before the implementation date turn up on the check-in counters only to be told they have to pay the difference.
Many in such instances are either unwilling or unable to pay. We will monitor the situation and bring you updates.
