The 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo has declared 2011 as “the Year of Ration.”Addressing his party people at the last leg of his national tour in the Central Region, Nana Addo said, Ghanaians were curious about the import of President Mills' declaration of the year 2011 as the “Year of Action” until the President cleared all doubts at his recent State of the Nation address.“Water is being rationed. Electricity supply is on ration. Road works are on ration. The implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure is seriously being rationed to the disadvantage of several workers including nurses and teachers. Everything is on ration, except the worsening suffering of the masses. In fact the Better Ghana Agenda is suffering under this regime of ration,” he said.Nana’s description of the implementation of government policy as “tot-tot” was helped by the President’s own words.During the State of the Nation address on Thursday, February 17, President Mills said, “Madam Speaker, some progress is being made in the existing water supply situation. Through rationing, many parts of Accra now have access to water.”However, all the water projects cited by President Mills were projects initiated and developed under President Kufuor, Nana Akufo-Addo intimated.Nana Addo went on to speak about the apparent high spirits the NPP appears to be in.He said what he has seen going around the country has convinced him that “the NPP is ready and steady and, by the Grace of God, coming back to power in 2012.”He noted that “the Ghanaian people are disappointed in the Mills-Mahama NDC government and they have realised the difference between the NPP and the NDC and that difference is like day and night.”But he cautioned that a lot would depend on the NPP itself: “If we continue to conduct ourselves well, stay united, disciplined, courageous and conduct our affairs in a manner that portray us as a more competent government-in-waiting, our message of hope, our vision to build a society of opportunities, our programmes for a brighter future should carry us to victory, by the Grace of God.”Nana Addo was speaking at the Catholic Parish Auditorium in Agona Swedru to round up his nationwide tour ahead of the upcoming April 30 parliamentary primaries of the NPP.He lauded the Central Region for the growing support and enthusiasm that they have for the NPP, noting to thunderous applaud that “anyone who watches closely elections in our country would know that the Central region is critical in the victory or defeat of any party and from reports I’m getting and what I have come to see for myself these two days, I am convinced that the NPP is winning the Central region in 2012.”He used the opportunity to also thank the entire membership of the NPP across the country for the support and cooperation they’ve given the leadership of the party as they came to their respective regions to educate them on the modalities in the upcoming parliamentary primaries and inspired them for the task ahead.Source: Herbert Krapa
