A youth group of the Convention People's Party (CPP) is advocating a presidential debate among those aspiring to lead the party into battle for political power in the 2012 elections.
This according to the group should come ahead of the party's national delegates' congress.
Mr Kwabena Agyei, National Coordinator of the group which calls itself "Sankofa CPP Youth Movement" said in a press statement it was important to appreciate that Election 2012 would be fought on issues bordering on the economy, jobs and wealth creation.
It was on account of this that the party would have to pick a candidate who could hold on his or her own against political opponents on any platform.
The Central Committee of the CPP, it said, should therefore work closely with the various structures to prepare the ground for such a debate.
The delegates and the nation as a whole would need to assess the presidential aspirants and determine who could lead the CPP to victory.
The statement appealed to all members of the party to work hard and bring the CPP back to power, asking that members also ensure they maintain a united front and avoid unnecessary distractions and intra-party feuding.
The CPP, according to the group, stood a good chance of winning the 2012 general elections because both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had disappointed Ghanaian voters.
