The Western Region does not have a photographic gallery and its archival building has not been completed since 1978.
The essence of the galley is to assist the Public Records and Archives Administration Department (PRAAD) to properly sort, store and document all relevant developments and changes that occur in the region.
Joseph Justice Turton-Mensah, Western Regional Director of PRAAD said an exhibition on the Western Region's contribution to Ghana's independence would be mounted in March to coincide with the "Ghana at 50" celebrations.
The exhibition would focus on items such as individuals who worked in the Western Region and later assumed political power, westerners working in several parts of the country, libraries in the region, schools, hospitals, universities, mining, past managing directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, military, police, railways, old trains, Sekondi location, chiefs, queen mothers, individuals, Members of Parliament and all Western Regional ministers both past and present.
Mr Turton-Mensah said the exhibition is meant to awaken the people of the Region to properly keep records of important developments in the region.Source: GNA
