Some executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Avenor-Ave constituency in the Volta Region are asking their MP Doe Adjaho not to contest the seat the sixth time.
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament reportedly pledged in 2008 not to seek re-election if he was allowed to contest for the fifth and last time.
The executives however claim they have hints Mr. Adjaho is planning to contest in 2012 – a clear violation of his own pledge.
They insist he must honor his promise and step down after 20 years as their MP.
A former Chairman of the NDC in the Avenor-Ave Constituency, Francis Tengey said the party executives had a torrid time convincing the electorate to vote for Mr Adjaho.
He claimed the majority of the people were of the view that the MP had done his bit and that it was time to give another person a chance.
“We took the trouble to explain and convince them and that was why they voted for him,” Mr Tengey said.
He insisted it will be a tough sell, if the First Deputy Speaker decides to contest the seat again.
