Ghana’s Parliament could soon have popular but dreaded fetish priest, Nana Kwaku Bonsam as an honourable member of the House.
Kwaku Bonsam is considering a career in politics and wants to contest for the Offinso North constituency parliamentary seat in 2012. Reports say he has started campaigning in earnest.
Speaking to Joy News on why he wants to be a lawmaker, Nana Kwabu Bonsam said the state had consistently relegated traditional religious worship to the background and there was the need for people like him to place themselves in critical places of power to protect the religion.
He cataloged philanthropic things he has been doing for his community and believes being in parliament will put him in a better stead to help members of the community.
The fetish priest said he has a school with a population of about 1,400 pupils who are not required to pay anything and that he had been helping people pay their medical.
His gods have revealed to him he will win the seat, Kwaku Bonsam claimed.
“I have everything I need – cars, houses – so when I win the seat and I’m in parliament and the government gives me money to help my community, I will not use that money to buy a car. If I do that my gods are gonna (going to) punish me,” he stated.
