The Central Regional Communications Director of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has accused the Regional Minister of orchestrating calls for his dismissal from the party.
He levelled the accusation against Ama Benyiwa Doe in reaction to a demand for his sacking from the NDC by a pressure group calling itself, Concerned NDC Youth.
The group is asking President Mills to sack Mr Allotey Jacobs because he is only concerned with contracts and constantly picks quarrels with the Central Regional Minister.
But Mr Allotey Jacobs says the allegations are false.
He told Joy News the Special Assistant to the Regional Minister organised the group and scheduled the press conference at which the calls were made for his dismissal.
He claims the unnamed Special Assistant to Ama Benyiwa Doe was also responsible for mobilising press men to cover and report on the press conference.
Mr Jacobs boasted he was too important for the party in the region to be toyed with.
“Look, I’m one of the heroes of NDC’s victory in the Central Region. The name Allotey Jacobs is overwhelming, is too intimidated, is too strong, to be maligned and debased,” he said.
Mr Jacobs said the Regional Minister considers him a threat because “I once said that I don’t think she is capable of handling the region and therefore she should be transferred from that region or she should be given another appointment.”
Asked whether he had spoken to Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, the Communication Director responded, “I care less to speak to her, I’m minding my own business.”
The regional minister has been unavailable for comment.
However another group within the party has reacted to the allegations by the Concerned NDC Youth.
The group, which calls itself Foundation for Peace, addressed journalists Wednesday morning in Cape Coast, to respond to the allegations levelled against Mr Allotey Jacobs.
Correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko reports the group expressed concern about the continuing divisiveness in the party in the region.
It advised the youth of the party against misguided actions that will undermine the gains made by the party.
