Abraham Odoom, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment has advised assembly members to consider themselves as servants, instead of lording it over the people.
He urged assembly members to render sacrificial duties to their communities to justify the trust and confidence reposed in them by their electorates.
Mr Odoom was addressing the closing session of a three-day orientation workshop, which was organised by the Ministry for 65 assembly members of Twifo-Heman-lower-Denkyira District, at Twifo-Praso was to educate members on their duties and responsibilities.
He appealed to the members to be proactive and work hard to leave their “footprints in the sand of time” and to draw inspiration from the national pledge “to be faithful and loyal to the assembly”.Mr Odoom advised them to initiate pragmatic programmes and draw a 20-year- development plan to enhance the development of the district.He also urged the members to apply the knowledge acquired at the workshop well to improve upon their work and cooperate with unit committees of the assembly to facilitate the development of the area.The Assembly members were taken through topics like “the role of assembly members in internal revenue generation”, “procurement and contracting process at the district level” and “sanitation and waste management”.Source: GNA
