The Accra Chapter of the newly revamped Yendi Secondary School Old Students Association, YESSOSA, has vowed to take immediate pragmatic steps to revive the apparent dwindling fortunes of the school. In their maiden old students meeting on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the GBC Club House, where over 100 old students participated, it was agreed that a delegation be immediately dispatched to the school to ascertain first hand information on various allegations made about the school. As was expected, the meeting reviewed various concerns making rounds on the social networking site, facebook, regarding the administrative lapses in the school which many agree are sending the school’s long-earned image and reputation in a downward spiral. “The meeting nominated a four-member delegation to meet with one of the school’s elderly members, Mr. A.B.A. Fuseini within the week for further consultations on the best way to tackle the crisis in the school”, says Mutaru Goro Iddrisu, a staunch YESSOSA member and one of the brains behind the rebirth of the association. According to Mr. Iddrisu, it has been agreed that the Tamale Chapter of the association should take the lead in sending a delegation to Yendi. He added that, a tutor at Ghana Secondary School and a one-time senior prefect of Yendi Secondary, Mr. Mustapha, will oversee the organization of the Tamale delegation to the school. The meeting also attracted the attention of some old students abroad, particularly those in North America and Europe. Mr. Robert Gidisu, who currently resides in North America suggested on ‘facebook’ that a conference call be arranged among those abroad to plan on the way forward and what assistance they can offer. The gathering was full of praise for Mr. Zakaria Hamidu through whose noble efforts the social networking page: ‘Yendi Secondary Old Students Association’ was created as a webpage to disseminate information among members about the state of the school. Yendi Secondary School was established in 1970 as the first secondary school in the Yendi district. Riding on the Motto: ‘We Learn to Serve’, the school has since produced personalities who have served the country in various capacities as Ministers, Members of Parliament, Ambassadors, Doctors, etc. It was obvious at the meeting that these old students desired a better image for the school.
