The Electoral Commission (EC) says voting in the Jaman North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region has not been postponed as rumored in the media.
Deputy EC Communication Director, Yussif Ayuba says it is only the Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei who has the power to call off an election.
There were reports the Commission has halted voting in the Jaman North Constituency due to misunderstanding among political party agents over the voter’s list.
Representatives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) were first to raise the issue to EC officials. They claimed the register has been bloated by some 23 names.
The information compelled EC officials to halt proceedings for the issue to be resolved. A meeting was held among stakeholders which resulted in the decision to have the polls rescheduled.
NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia was said to have been part of that meeting.
Joy News' Henrison Okrah who is monitoring developments reports that a news conference was called to announce the rescheduling of the election.
Okrah said the Omanehene of the area, Odeneho Dr Affram Brempong III chaired series of meeting with EC officials, and political party representatives to have the polls postponed for the register to be purged of those names.
But in an interview with Joy News' Israel Laryea on Wednesday, the EC denied ever announcing rescheduling of the process in the area.
Mr Ayuba said although they are aware of issues faced by EC officials in the Constituency, the Commission has not directed the polls be rescheduled.
"Nobody can postpone an election. Any decision of that kind has to be deffered to the EC," he said.
He said the Commission has instructed the district EC officials to go ahead with the exercise.
