Police in Tema have arrested five macho men for causing discomfort to voters at the Datus Complex School polling station in Tema.
The Tema regional police PRO, ASP Juliana Obeng told Joy News that the men were picked following complaints from voters that their presence made them feel “uncomfortable and intimidated".
She said upon interrogation, the men confessed that they were not registered voters at the centre but could not tell their main purpose for being at the station.
The five were said to have gone very close to the polling area, without accreditation and were disrupting the process. They were brought to the area by an unnamed parliamentary aspirant to help police the process.
Once they were not registered voters in the polling station, they had no business being there. ASP Obeng said they were arrested for interrupting the process.
The five men, according to ASP Obeng are being held at the Datus Police station to assist the police in further investigation.
She however denied claims that the men had snatched ballot boxes from the polling station.
Aside this incident, ASP Obeng said the police in Tema are on top of their job and are poised to ensure that voters in the area are safe even as they go about their civil duties.
She urged voters who felt threatened in anyway at the polling station to report to EC officials or police officers present.
