The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for a smooth electoral process across the country.
At a news conference to make known its mid-day situational analysis of the organisation of the general elections, CODEO scored the EC high marks for its execution of the elections.
In a report which was based on information received from 1,486 out of the 1,500 observers, CODEO said the election was peaceful despite some irregularities recorded across the country.
The election monitoring group deployed about 8,000 trained, accredited, non-partisan Ghanaians observers who volunteered their time to help ensure that every registered voter cast his/her ballot freely and unhindered on Election Day.
A highlight of some of the CEDEO’s observation includes:
(a) A few incidents (27 in all) of intimidation and harassment at the polling stations listed below as at 10:30 a.m.
(b) In cases, where items were reported as not present it was due to the late arrival of some materials.
(c) A confirmation that in all polling stations, the presidential and parliamentary ballot boxes were shown to be empty, sealed and placed in public view before the commencement of voting.
(d) There was uniformed security personnel at duty post at 88% of polling stations.
CODEO has appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm and abide by the laws of the country as the EC goes about counting and declaration process of the results.
