The governing National Democratic Congress has described the early declaration by the opposition New Patriotic Party as "irresponsible and treasonable."
Director of Elections of the NDC Samuel Ofosu Ampofo called a press conference at 3:00am urging Ghanaians to disregard the victory declaration by the NPP.
He said their own figures meticulously tabulated indicate their candidate is in a commanding lead but out of respect to the laws of the country they have decided to keep mute.
By law it is the Electoral Commission that declares presidential results.
Samuel Ampofo was responding to the early victory declaration by the Campaign Manager of the NPP Peter Mac Manu.
The NPP leader asked the president to concede defeat because the lead by Nana Akufo-Addo is unassailable. According to him, the NPP has attained an unassailable lead with just 20% of polling station results left.
But the NDC disagrees.
"The act by the NPP is not only irresponsible but treasonable," Samuel Ampofo stated, adding, "it is a demonstration of the NPP resort to act that threaten the peace of the country."
He charged the peace council, the Christian Council to collectively condemn the NPP and also called on the media not give fodder to the NPP.
