Two armed robbers on Wednesday attacked and robbed a Goil filling station at Zongo in Sunyani of the day's sales totaling about GH 2,800 cedis (28 million cedis).
Chief Superintendent Christian Tetteh Yohonu, Sunyani Municipal Commander of Police told the Ghana News Agency that at about 8pm on that day, two young men wearing masks, with one of them wielding a gun entered the room where the day's sales were being counted by the manager and the attendants.
He said the one with the gun ordered them to remain quiet and while he positioned himself at the entrance, his colleague began stuffing the money into a bag.
Chief Superintendent Yohonu said after collecting all the money, they gave a warning shot, scaled a wall and disappeared into the dark.
The manager, Mr Emmanuel George Yeboah and his attendants raised an alarm but help came too late, as the robbers were already gone.
In another development, the police have mounted a search for two robbers who attacked a toll collector at a toll collection point at Fiapre, on the Sunyani-Berekum Highway at about 2200 hours the same day and took away the day's collection of two million cedis.
The municipal police commander said Mr. Johnson Ababio, an official of the Ghana Highway Authority who was on duty reported the incident to the police.
The police said Mr. Ababio narrated that the masked robbers had emerged from the bush wielding a gun and a hammer and when he gave them the money available they appeared not satisfied and used the hammer to brake four boxes in the office only to discover that they contained coins.
Furious over this discovery, the robbers scattered all the coins on the floor and fled back into the bush.
Asked whether the toll collection point had no security, the municipal commander explained that they were always provided with security but the AU Summit took all the security men to Accra.
That resulted in the unfortunate incident, Chief Superintendent Yohuno explained, but added, "With the summit over, security will immediately be restored".Source: GNA
