Three embattled suspended executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) might have their status revoked in the coming months, Joy News has gathered.
Former NPP General Secretary, Ohene Ntow told Joy News President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has served a notice to the party's National Council to have the internal issues resolved.
“We have had our very first joint National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meeting and he [Akufo-Addo] emphasized that that matter is presently going to be handled,” he said.
Suspended NPP Chairman, Paul Afoko; General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, and First Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe were not part of the party’s victory in last two weeks Wednesday’s polls.
The three have been on suspension for close to a year after the party’s NEC found them culpable of actions it considered as a misdemeanor.
The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) had based part of its campaign messages on the disunity in the NPP.
President John Mahama had told Ghanaians on his campaign trails that a mandate for a party that is not united would be fatal for the future of the country.
He unleashed attacks on the NPP leader as someone who was not peaceful, not a uniter and not people-loving.
Ghana needs a unifier, not a divisive Akufo-Addo, Mr Mahama has said of the NPP leader.
But after the Presidential election, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 53.86 percent of the valid vote cast against 44.40 recorded by President Mahama.
Mr Ntow who was against the suspension of the three said he was happy the President-elect has shown the preparedness to end the infighting.
"He has given an indication that the NEC and National Council [I am clear in my mind] has taken a cue and will deal with the matter sooner or later," he said.
"It was very clear in the opening statement that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gave to the joint session," he said, adding the feud in the party was not going to be a subject of worry for the NPP.
