The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is hoping to revive the country’s industrial base with the hosting of the industrial and technology fair (INDUTECH) in Kumasi.The Ashanti and Brong Ahafo branch of the AGI is partnering the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to resuscitate the INDUTECH for the promotion of Ghana made products.The fair, which holds this April under the theme: “Promoting made in Ghana goods and industrial technology", will attract manufacturers, technology developers and service providers.Local businesses will have the opportunity to showcase building materials, agro-processed products, cosmetics, fabrics and other technologies developed by research institutions to propel industrialization.Robert Nketia, Organizing Committee Chairman in charge of Marketing and Publicity, has told Luv Biz Report this year’s fair is unique because it is the first time the event is holding outside of Accra.He noted that INDUTECH provides a platform for the local manufacturers to demonstrate their competitiveness, whilst drawing attention to innovative products and processing machines developed by scientific institutions in the country.“For the general Ghanaian public, we want to let them know that all those things that we rush to buy as imports can and are always equally being manufactured and provided in Ghana, which have better quality and lower prices compared to the imported ones,” Mr. Nketia stated.The AGI will also be courting the attention of local importers to have interest in made-in-Ghana products.“There is really no need for them to be rushing outside always to import goods into the country when [for] the same goods they can get better quality in Ghana, being manufactured in Ghana… so it’s even a cheaper way of doing business by buying made in Ghana as compared to rushing and buying from outside,” Mr. Netia observed.The AGI is hopeful a catalogue of products to be produced as part of the exhibition will help influence national policy on the importation of products into the country.Story by Kofi Adu Domfeh/Luv Fm/Ghana
